IMAC project screen, Paint Formula & Inventory Management Platform

Overview

IMAC is custom software for managing, mixing and storing car paints and formulas. It adds advanced user and role management, inventory tracking and data management.

IMAC replaced a wall of paper formula cards and a set of spreadsheets. One person understood those in full and everyone else guessed at them. IMAC stores proprietary paint formulas, guides technicians through mixing them, and keeps stock counts tied to the jobs that consume them.

The challenge

Paint technicians were managing thousands of proprietary formulas across paper records and disconnected spreadsheets.

The formulas were the business, and they lived in binders. Finding one meant knowing where it was. Mixing from it meant reading it correctly under workshop conditions. Stock was counted apart from the work that used it. So the two numbers drifted apart a little more every week.

What we built

Built a centralised platform with formula storage, mixing guidance, inventory tracking, and role-based access for shop staff.

We modelled the formulas, the inventory and the people first. Every screen after that depends on the shape agreed there. Mixing guidance was built around the everyday path rather than the path that demonstrates well. A technician who finds the system slower than the binder will go back to the binder. Roles decide who can read a formula, who can change one and who can adjust stock.

  • Central formula store with search, versioning and controlled access
  • Step by step mixing guidance sized for workshop conditions
  • Inventory tracking tied to the jobs that consume stock
  • Role based access separating technicians, supervisors and administrators
  • Reporting on formula usage and stock movement

Technology used

We are technology agnostic by policy. This is a record of what IMAC required, not a house standard.

IMAC FAQs

Off the shelf inventory tools track quantities. They do not hold a proprietary formula, guide a technician through mixing it, or connect what was mixed to what left the shelf. That connection was the whole point of the project.

Access is controlled by role, so a technician sees what they need to mix and nothing else. Changes to a formula are restricted and recorded. The formulas are the client's most valuable asset, and they are treated that way.

It was designed for one. Screens are readable at arm's length with gloves on. The frequent actions are reachable without hunting through menus. Software that assumes a quiet desk does not survive a shop floor.
