End-to-End Management Platform for Car Repair Shops
End-to-end shop management

Overview
ChipsAway is a management platform for car repair shops. It covers work order tracking, user and role management, customer communications and reporting.
ChipsAway gives a repair shop one view of every job from intake to collection. Work orders, technician assignment, customer updates and reporting sit in one system. They are no longer spread across a paper tray, a whiteboard and somebody's memory.
The challenge
Repair shops tracked work orders by hand on paper forms. Nobody could see job status or technician workload.
Jobs were tracked on paper forms that travelled around the workshop with the car. To get the status of a repair, you had to find the form or find the technician. So customer questions were answered with an estimate. Workload was balanced by instinct rather than by anything anyone could see.
What we built
Delivered a fully integrated shop management system with digital work orders, technician dashboards, customer portal, and business analytics.
The digital work order became the single record and everything else reads from it. Technicians get a view of what is theirs. The front desk sees status without walking to the bay. Customers are updated from the same record rather than from a separate note. Reporting came last on purpose. Analytics built on an unreliable record produce confident nonsense.
- Digital work orders covering intake through to completion
- Technician dashboards showing assigned jobs and current status
- Customer portal and updates driven by the job record
- Role and permission management across shop staff
- Reporting on throughput, workload and turnaround
Results
The numbers below are what changed for ChipsAway UK after ChipsAway shipped.
Technology used
We are technology agnostic by policy. This is a record of what ChipsAway required, not a house standard.
Services behind this project
ChipsAway drew on 3 services from our catalogue, matched to what an app project like this actually needed.
App development
Mobile and operational applications where records change and permissions matter. The edge cases decide whether the software survives a real workday.
Explore app development →Custom software development
Bespoke systems for teams with a very specific requirement. An off the shelf product would force them to change how they work.
Explore custom software →Business process optimisation
Mapping and redesigning the process before it is automated. Software built on a broken workflow simply makes the wrong thing faster.
Explore process work →This work sits inside our Automate solution, for teams facing the same problem.

ChipsAway FAQs
The paper job sheet, the status whiteboard and the phone calls that exist only because nobody can see where a car is. All three become one record. The workshop and the front desk read from it at the same time.
Customers see the status of their own repair through a portal, updated from the same work order the shop uses. There is no second version of the truth for staff to keep in step by hand.
Roles and permissions were built to separate staff, responsibilities and visibility. That is the foundation multi site operation depends on. Extending it is a scoping conversation rather than a rebuild.
